The Background - The class viewed the video “Stomp Out Loud,” featuring the acclaimed off-broadway group of musicians/dancers who use anything and everything to make noise!
The Project - MAKE NOISE! (Preferably at home...) Students will be expected to prepare a planned percussive presentation. There should be definite rhythm and beat patterns which are stated, developed, and modified.
The instruments - Any sort of percussive instrument can be used, such as body parts, (clapping, snapping, slapping); “real” instruments (such as drums, shakers, and bells); and found instruments (such as hockey sticks, garbage cans, and pots and pans).
The Presentation - The planned percussive presentation can be made live in the classroom, gym, or outside, or it can be video taped at any number of other locations such as your kitchen, the arena, or a woodlot far, far away from civilization....
The Musicians - This project can be tackled solo, or in groups of up to 12 students.
Assessment - This noisy assignment will be assessed primarily for music, but if the students can really move to the rhythms, dance (drama) marks can be assigned. The class will work together to create a rubric for assessment purposes.
Due Date - This assignment must be ready for presentation to the class no later than Monday February 2. Please Note - because of the nature of this project, most of the planning and preparations must be done outside of school time. Please make sure your child gets together with his/her group as often as possible.
