TURNING POINT
Do you know of anyone in the Haldimand area that needs to finish their Secondary
School diploma?
If the person is 17-21 years old and needs credits, please have them contact
Mr. Passfield at CSS Turning Point (289) 439-2606.
SMOKING - Though smoking is highly discouraged, students smoking must use the smoking area in the front of the school, towards the OPP station. Smoking on School property is illegal and will result in an out of school suspension and may be subject to a fine from the Ministry of Health. Students in class are not permitted in the smoking area during class time.
PARKING - Students driving to School are reminded to exercise
safe driving practices on School grounds. Student parking is available at
the front of the
school only, in the back rows towards the TRACK. NO PARKING BY THE BUS OVAL!
REMINDERS FOR A SMOOTH TRANSITION TO SECOND SEMESTER:
1. Replenish binders with paper and writing utensils.
2. Ensure a good combination lock in placed on your locker. ($5 at the main
office)
3. Notes or phone calls from parents must be received by the school for
any student absence. That's the law. Students will be subject to consequences
for neglect to comply.
4. Student drop off is only in the front parking lot of the school. The
back entrance provides access for some staff parking and delivery vehicles
only!
This expectation applies even during the noon hour. Student Pickups - Parents
picking up students at the end of the school day are requested, when leaving
the school parking lot, to drive around the parked school busses. The school
bus loading zone is a high traffic area for our students with minimal room
for both students and vehicular traffic.
5. Students must use their teacher's Hall Pass (green lanyard) as a passport
to move in the halls during class time.
6. We are a *No Hat/Head Gear School* for security and respect. All are
expected to remove head gear as they enter.
7. Riding school buses is a privilege not a right. The privilege can be
revoked for inappropriate or unsafe behaviour.
A REMINDER TO STUDENTS ON SPARE:
The library is available for a quiet work period. Three computers are set
aside for students on spare. The library will be closed during Period 2
until 11AM
this semester due to staffing restrictions. Please plan accordingly.
GUIDANCE
Present grade 9 students have completed course selection sheets for the fall
of 2010. Parents, please discuss your child's choices, sign the option sheet,
and return it to the guidance office.
Course selections for grade 10, 11, and returning grade 12 students will be
completed during the month of February. All course selection sheets need to
be signed by parents/guardians.
It is extremely important for students to choose their courses accurately as
very few changes will be made to student timetables after the master timetable
is made.
Parents are always welcome to phone the guidance office for information about
course choices and student progress. Direct Line: 905-772-3302

The CSS Drama Club has had an exciting year so far but the best is yet to come! At Christmas we entertained parents and the community with a Band Concert and Play Production. On Friday February 26th the Drama Club is travelling to the Lighthouse Theatre in Port Dover to participate in the Sears Drama Festival. The play is called "Paper Moon" and is student written. Curtaintime is at 7PM and tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door at the Lighthouse Theatre Box Office (1-519-583-2221) for $5.00.
The most exciting news for the Drama Club is that this year we are hosting
the Sears Provincial Drama Festival. It will run from May 12-15th at the
Sanderson Centre in Brantford! Students from all over Ontario will come
and the audience
will be treated to the best student plays in Ontario. It is an extreme honour
to be asked to host this festival and we are very excited about the week.
Tickets for this may be purchased at the Sanderson Centre Box Office (1-519-758-8090)
for $10.00. Please show your support for Cayuga Secondary School and plan
to
attend.
You won't be disappointed.
CONGRATULATIONS Once again students in the Grade12 Business Leadership class competed in a CSS Entrepreneurial Challenge. Students were given the task to plan and operate a business at CSS for one week and donate the profits to a charitable organization of their choice. The groups were very creative in developing appealing products targeted towards students and staff, including both services and goods. Lovin* Oven Bakery won the competition with a Net Profit of $250. All groups are congratulated on the success of their unique and profitable ventures. The class raised over $600 that was donated to various organizations and charities.
WHEELCHAIR ACCESS
Currently Cayuga Secondary School has access to its premises for members of
the community restricted to a Wheelchair via the front doors of the school.
This provides access to all areas of the school except the 3rd floor of the
school. Access to the Gym is provided by a lift / elevator that is currently
working.
Co-op/OYAP
The Co-op/OYAP/AOYAP programs at CSS are off to another busy and exciting semester
with over 65 students participating in a wide variety of placements and programs
including: electrical and plumbing, millwrights, veterinary clinics, interior
design, farming, nursing, and specialized programs through Mohawk College
and Ontario Power Generation. As well, many of our students working in apprenticeable
trades this semester will have the opportunity to join the OYAP program and
gain valuable hours towards their apprenticeship. If your son/daughter is
entering grade 11 or 12 and would like to *test drive* a career while earning
high school credits, please contact Mrs. Smith, Mr. Hilker or a Guidance
Counsellor for a Co-op application.
WHITE PINE BOOK CLUB
We meet Thursdays at lunch to discuss a different book each week. A set of
10 books is $100.00 or borrow the library*s copies. Students in clubs all
across Ontario vote on April 23rd for the winner of the White Pine Award.
WRESTLING
The wrestling team has worked hard and had a very exciting season so far, with
a few more tournaments to come! Cayuga will be hosting the ZONE I & II

to go to SOSSA in Hagersville on Wednesday, February 24 then on to OFSAA.
Good Luck Wrestlers!!
GOLF/TENNIS
Golf and Tennis will resume in the spring with the Laidlaws. C.S.S. will be
hosting an Invitational Golf Tournament.

with tournaments on the 4th, 10th and playoffs beginning on the 17th.
Keep up the great work ladies!
