It is the student's responsibility to attend classes regularly. The following are examples of legitimate reasons for absence from school: sickness, religious days, professional appointments. Similarly, participation in any school sponsored events, including teams, field trips, etc. are excusable reasons for missing class. Students are responsible for making up the work from such classes. The following are examples of inexcusable reasons for absence: sleeping in, missing bus, studying for tests or completing assignments, personal reasons, shopping, hair appointments, working, or other trivial excuses. Attendance will be monitored through the office. Depending on individual circumstance the Attendance Monitor may: give a warning, inform parents, refer to guidance/support services, require a learning packet, or assign detentions. Detentions are assigned at the discretion of the Attendance Monitor. In general, however, 1 detentions will be assigned per 3 lates. Consequences will escalate for those continuously truant. Students persistently truant will be referred to the office and may face escalating punitive consequences. These may include further detentions, a parental conference, an attendance contract, suspension, or withdrawal from school. Students truant from class may receive a mark of zero for any classroom work, participation marks, assignments, or tests that day. Students are responsible to arrive punctually to school and to class. Students late to class are accountable to the classroom teacher and the rules of that class. The classroom teacher may require the student to remain after class or may assign detentions. Students excessively (more than 15 minutes) or persistently late to class may be referred to the office. Those who are late too often, excessively, or for trivial reasons may face escalating consequences through the office. School is a place of work and therefore a businesslike area. All members of our community are therefore expected to wear clothing that is appropriate for a place of work. All persons show respect for themselves by the manner in which they dress. Outer wear must not be brought to the classroom. Head wear is not to be worn during school hours. Clothing that advertises illegal or immoral behaviour, or displays suggestive or undesirable ideas is completely unacceptable in school. Persons wearing unacceptable clothing will be asked to change and may be sent home to do so. 1. Computer hardware and software will be treated with respect. Students may be held financially responsible for damages resulting from improper use. 2. Each student is responsible for the security of their own password. A fee may be charged if the site administrator needs to change your password. 3. Students are expected to respect the privacy of others' files. 4. Students are expected to save files only to their own work space. All work is to be saved to the drive specified by the teacher. 5. Students are expected to submit only their own work for evaluation purposes. A mark of zero may result for plagiarized work. 6. Any damage or malfunction must be reported immediately to the supervising teacher. 7. Internet access is a privilege. Students are to use the Internet only with permission of staff. 8. Access to E-mail or chat rooms must be approved by staff. 9. Students are expected to act in an environmentally friendly manner. When printing work, careful editing from the screen will reduce paper waste. 10. Printing may occur only with the permission of a teacher. 11. Disks may only be used with the permission of a teacher. 12. Computer equipment will be used for educational purposes only. 13. All food and drink must be left outside of computer areas. |
