It is always a pleasure to teach a motivated group of students like the ones in grade 2. During the month of May, we will continue to read books and texts in French , and we will start to work on French grammar in a more systematic way. In Science, we will continue to study simple mechanisms and we will start to study the life animals in our surroundings. In Mathematics, we will continue to solve problems, we will review concepts in Geometry and in Data Management and Probability… We have still a lot of work to do in order to be ready for Grade 3. Finally, we will simply do our best! Take advantage of the days that are becoming longer… it will only last a few more months. Enjoy, the month of May!

Mrs. Heidi Paul

During the third term we will continue to focus on reading and writing more fluently in English. Please encourage your son or daughter to read and write daily in English.  I have been sending home a daily reading log with your son or daughter; most students have become very diligent in bringing back their reading logs daily.  Please read with him or her for 10 to 20 minutes a night and sign the reading log: this way we are able to continue to track your son or daughter’s progress more efficiently.  If you have any question or concerns please feel free to contact me.

We will continue and finish the unit on simple machines and mechanisms. We will also start a new unit on Life Systems : we will study the growth and changes in animals.

English

The students will continue to organize ideas and information in order to write more meaningful stories.

March Break is almost there! But before relaxing, we will continue to work hard in Math, in Science and in French… In Math, we will continue to develop our counting skills: adding and subtracting simple numbers will be done on a daily basis. We will also focus on developing our problem solving skills. In science, we will continue to study the energy from the wind and from moving water, and we will start a new unit on movement through the study of simple mechanisms. Finally, I would like to recognize the Grade 2 students for their efforts in speaking French before class time in the morning, during class time, and during lunchtime. I am very proud to hear you speak French! Way to go! Je suis très fière de vous ! Continuez ainsi ! (Sylvie Goncalves)

Mme Paul’s last word… The students are beginning to write wonderful and creative stories. Please remember the importance of working with your son and daughter to help them improve their reading and writing in English. Your son or daughter should be reading with you every night for a minimum of 10 minutes per night. Thanks Mme Paul.
