What is the G.E.D.?
  • The General Educational Development (G.E.D.) is an international high school equivalency testing program for adults who do not have a high school diploma. Successful completion of the G.E.D. Tests allows adults to prove that they have skills equal to or exceeding those of recent high school graduation
  • In May 1996, the G.E.D. received official recognition by the Ontario Ministry of Education and Training. Those who pass the tests will receive an Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate.
                                             

What are the G.E.D. Tests?
  • The G.E.D. consists of five multiple-choice tests and one written essay that together require a total maximum time of 7 hours and 35 minutes to complete. They measure abilities in science, mathematics, social studies, writing and literature and the arts.

  • for personal confidence and self-esteem
  • to get into college, university or retraining
  • for better opportunities when job hunting

G.E.D. Eligibility
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have not graduated from high school
  • Have been out of school for at least one full year
  • Be a resident of Ontario


Administration
  • The Ministry of Education has designated the ILC as the sole provider of the GED testing services for the province of Ontario
  • The High School Equivalency Certificate is signed by the Deputy Minister of Education
