students with the opportunities to:
- earn a full credit
- repeat a failed course
- improve their mark in a passed course
- change to a different stream

TYPES OF COURSES OFFERED
- Full Credit Courses (Forms due June 18,

Full Credit Courses (FOUR WEEKS - 110 hours): open to students who would like to earn
an additional credit or for students who are recommended by their school to repeat
a course for the full 110 hours. A student may take only ONE of these courses. These
courses are 110 hours in length and run from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for four weeks.
Forms are due June 18, 2010.
Repeat Credit Courses (TWO WEEKS - 55 hours): open to students who have been enrolled
in the same course during the regular school year with a final grade of 40%+ and
have permission of the home school principal to take a repeat course. These courses
are also open to students who have passed the course but would like to improve their
mark. These are 55 hour courses and run from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for two weeks.
Subject to scheduling restrictions a student may take either one or two repeat courses.
Forms are due June 29, 2010, or before.
Transfer Courses (TWO WEEKS - 55 hours): open to students who have taken a course
at the Applied Level and wish to transfer to the Academic Level, or vice versa. These
are 55 hour courses and run from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for two weeks. (Credit Value:
0.5). Forms are due June 18, 2010.
Co-op Courses (FOUR WEEKS - 110 hours): Co-op placements will be co-ordinated before
the start of Summer. (Credit Value: 1.0). Forms are due
May 28, 2010.
**PLEASE NOTE**
Because of the large enrolment for summer school, we cannot guarantee which semester
the two (2) week programs will be offered. Students must visit the summer school
location on the 1st day to check the weeks their course is running. Due to the large
number of students, and the short turn around time, it is impossible to guarantee
a phone call to inform the student.
REGISTRATION
All courses are offered subject to sufficient enrolment and teacher availability.
Students will be notified ONLY if a class is cancelled OR if it is available at an
alternate site.
Students currently registered in high school:
- MUST complete a registration form through the Guidance Department at their school
which MUST be signed by the student's Guidance Counsellor or have proof of academic
standing.
- Students registering in courses located at
either McKinnon Park Secondary, Simcoe Composite School or Pauline
Johnson Collegiate & V.S. will send their registration form to Grand
Erie Learning Alternatives, 365 Rawdon St., Brantford, ON (Fax:
519-753-6690).
Exceptional Students:
- Due to lack of funding for support personnel and the diverse nature of classes, we
are unable to accommodate or modify summer school courses for those students deemed
exceptional.
Adult Students or Students NOT enrolled in a secondary school:
- may register through the Grand Erie Learning Alternatives, 365 Rawdon Street, Brantford,
or at the nearest secondary school.
**PLEASE NOTE**A Secondary School Transcript MUST accompany all registration forms
for ADULT STUDENTS or ANYONE NOT PRESENTLY ENROLLED WITH THE GRAND ERIE DISTRICT
SCHOOL BOARD.
Late Registrations
- Please note that NO
registrations will be accepted after Tuesday, June 29.
Registrations will be accepted at Grand Erie Learning Alternatives, 365 Rawdon Street,
Brantford until 3 p.m. on this date. NO REGISTRATIONS WILL BE
ACCEPTED ON THE FIRST DAY OF SUMMER SCHOOL-MONDAY, JULY 5, 2010.
TRANSPORTATION
- Transportation will be available beginning the first day of summer school at designated
sites. Once the schedule is available, it will be posted in all Secondary Schools.
There will be Six Nations bussing available again this year.

FEES
- Courses are offered free of charge to students of the Grand Erie District School
Board. A $10.00, non-refundable, student activity fee will be collected on the first
day of classes (cash or cheque payable to the Grand Erie District School Board).
Students will be issued a student card that will allow access to transportation,
library and computer labs. A textbook fee will not be collected. Students will be
billed if textbooks are not returned or are damaged.
ATTENDANCE
Lates:
No student will be admitted to class without a late slip issued by the summer
school office. Three (3) lates will be counted as one absence.
Absences: All absences must be reported by phone or by explanatory note upon return
to school. Three (3) absences may result in withdrawal from the program. Credits
may not be granted after three (3) absences. Vacations and
appointments must be made outside of regular Summer School hours and dates.
