We have made good beginnings. May this glance at yesterday inspire us all to greater tomorrows. (Yearbook 1968 - 1969)

In 1958, plans were being completed for a small high school to be built on Wood Street, but a proposed highway claimed too much of the land from the sight. The Board of Education bought Mr. Cecil Elliot’s farm on North Park Street and here in the late fall of 1958, the foundations of the original building were poured. In September of 1959, North Park Collegiate opened its door, with its principal, Mr. Howard Jacobson, sixteen teachers and 405 students. (Yearbook 1968 - 1969)

By 1963, the school had grown to over twice its size, with the addition of classrooms, science facilities, a cafeteria, and vocational classrooms. C.R. Ford, director of the technical and vocational branch, Department of Labour, was the guest speaker at the opening ceremonies of the new vocational wing. He told the audience that there is no room for a horse and buggy in today’s educational traffic. (Yearbook 1962 - 1963)

Secondary school superintendent George F. Pew told the board that there is surplus overcrowding situations at the high school which are creating “undesirable conditions”. The addition would include a music room, two shops and classrooms. Mr. Pew said the proposed addition should meet the requirements for secondary school students for the next five years. (Yearbook 1964 - 1965)

Now, in 1969, we are anticipating an enrollment of 1700 students. The proposed plans include classrooms, additional library space, seminar rooms, and auditorium. (Yearbook 1968 - 1969)
