Remember:

  1. If you arrive at school late, for morning or afternoon classes, you must report to the office to receive a late slip for entry to class. If you are late more than three times in a term, you may have to make up the time, as well as the work missed.
  2. A parent or guardian must let the school know if you are not going to be at school.
  3. You must have a signature from your parent or guardian if you are staying after school for an activity.

Anaphylaxis is a condition that can be fatal. This year we have children in our school who have a life-threatening food allergy to cow’s milk, peanuts and all kinds of nuts, including tree nuts. The cow’s milk allergic reaction only occurs when the food containing this allergen is ingested. We will therefore be stressing that the children in our school not share lunch or snack items. The peanut and nut allergy can, however, be brought on by cross-contamination. This means that if the child comes into contact with even the smallest trace of the allergen, through eating, inhaling, or touching "anaphylaxis” (a severe allergic reaction that can cause unconsciousness, coma or death) will occur. A protocol is in place for each child and all staff are trained in the correct procedures, including how to administer adrenaline through the use of an epi-pen, before transporting to the hospital for additional treatment.

We want to avoid having to use our procedures for anaphylactic shock. Prevention, of course, is the best approach. In accordance with decisions made by the staff and the School Council, we are establishing our school as a safe environment for all students by making it a “PEANUT- AND NUT-SAFE ENVIRONMENT”. Please help us by sending foods to school with your child that are free from peanuts or nut products.
