STUDENT SERVICES
The counsellors associated
with the Guidance Department offer a variety of services to students and
parents:

individual counselling about courses, careers
and personal matters;

group presentations about careers and future
education;

printed information, videos and computer
programs about jobs, colleges, universities and other
opportunities;

a computer service called CHOICES and CAREER
CRUISING to help you learn about careers and future
opportunities;
-
records of your accumulated
credits;
-
information about scholarships and financial
aid for further education;
-
help in adjusting to Valley Heights Secondary
School;
-
help in finding jobs;
-
preparation for job
interviews;
-
résumé writing;
-
personal crisis
counselling;
-
referrals to community agencies for help with
particular problems;
-
referrals to the school psychologist or social
worker for counselling with students and/or parents.

confidential referrals to S.T.A.R. counsellor
for information and counselling about physical, emotional and sexual
abuse.

Career/Interest Surveys help students know more
about themselves with regard to scholastic ability, interests, etc.
Although Guidance counsellors try to see
every student every year with regard to future plans, you may request an
interview at a time best for you rather than waiting to be contacted.
SCHOLARSHIPS, BURSARIES AND AWARDS
All students are automatically
eligible for scholarships and subject awards. Bursaries on the other hand, must
be applied for and application forms may be obtained from Guidance.

STUDENT ACTIVITY FEE
All students at Valley Heights
Secondary School are expected to pay an activity fee for which they are given a
Student Card. This card entitles each student to participate in extra-curricular
activities, to attend dances, and to enjoy the events and activities planned
throughout the year by the Students' Council, the Athletic Association, and the
other clubs and teams that the fee supports.
Student Card Fee: $25.00
(includes agenda) We expect all students to purchase a student’s
card.
